We visited Dorchester this July and after a day wandering around exploring the place’s Roman history and checking out locations Thomas Hardy featured in many of his books we decided to head off into the country and find a nice pub for a late afternoon drink.

Heading out of Dorchester we took the road to Sherborne and after a while noticed signs to Cerne Abbas. We remembered having read about the carved giant so went to take a look.

It’s just outside the village and across the valley from the hill is a very convenient car park where we stopped for a while and took these pictures. The countryside around was amazing and we were so pleased we had discovered the place almost by accident.
