Helen Baggott will take us on a postcard illustrated tour around the coast exploring stories of heroism. The talk looks at some of the coastal landmarks that reveal stories written by our ancestors. As well as sharing the stories of who sent and received some of the cards, this talk will also explore the families who called ‘the lighthouse’ their home.
Helen is an editor, speaker and writer from Dorset. Her most recent project is researching the stories behind postcards sent more than 100 years ago. So far, three collections of stories have been published as Posted in the Past, Posted in the Past – Second Delivery and Posted in the Past – Hands Across the Sea.
She has written for regional magazines; national magazines including This England, Discover Your Ancestors, Who Do You Think You Are?, and has also contributed to Family Treemagazine’s blog. Her work has been recognised by national newspapers as a ‘postcard detective in I newspaper and an ‘heirloom detective’ in The Mail on Sunday’s ‘You’ magazine.
The talk will be held in Hope United Reformed Church at 8 Trinity Street. Tea & biscuits will be served from 2pm and the talk will begin at 2.30pm.
Tickets will be available on the door and are £2.00 for members of the Friends and £3.00 for visitors. (Exact change would be appreciated, if possible).
