‘Velvet Voice’ swing singer, Tony Lowe, returns to his home county this summer to perform a whole list of concerts, beginning with what will be the first Greenhill show to take place since the government Covid ‘unlocking’ was announced. Covering the songs of Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Tom Jones and many others, in his own inimitable style, Tony is keen to regenerate the passionate atmosphere that his concerts generate.
Tony, who has raised thousands of pounds for local charities, says “I’m so excited to be able to get out sing to the public again; lockdown has been a frustrating time for everyone, especially those in the entertainment industry whose opportunities disappeared overnight when Covid struck.” The ‘Friends of Greenhill Gardens’ (FOGG) Committee have been kind enough to reschedule my first concert to Friday, 23rd July, as the original date would have been impossible, due to the lockdown restrictions.” FOGG are planning to build a new lodge in the gardens to house the workings of the wonderful floral clock, built in 1936. A good start has been made to raise the funds required, but log on to the FOGG website (www.greenhill-gardens.co.uk) to see how you can donate, and enable this project to be completed.
Tony will also be appearing in Weymouth town centre and at Sherborne Market, in Dorchester Borough Gardens, and at what is a new venue for him, Brewery Square, Dorchester. Tony said “I watched a concert in the square in 2019 and thought what a wonderful environment it was for live music. The restaurant and apartment balcony areas overlooking the arena allow dinners and residents to view the concert in addition to the ground level audience. It has an ‘outside theatre’ feel to it, which is just perfect.”
