Weymouth’s festive spirit was ignited as almost 40 businesses took part in the We Are Weymouth Winter Wonderland Window Display Competition over the 2023 festive period. The competition saw an impressive array of participants, each contributing to the festive ambience of Weymouth’s streets. The exceptional efforts of all participants are commended, showcasing the dedication and creativity of local businesses in fostering community spirit.
Running for one month, the competition for the best Christmas shop window was voted for by the general public. The aim of the Christmas themed window display was to ‘create a sense of wonder’ and attract customers to the shops. We Are Weymouth has distributed additional commendation awards to those who have either utilised their window space cleverly or made best use of their shop contents to make an impact.
Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth comments: “We were thrilled to witness the outpouring of creativity and holiday cheer displayed by our local businesses, so much so that we’re planning to run a spring window competition to celebrate the return of sunshine! A huge congratulations to all the winners and participants for their remarkable contributions in making Weymouth a true Winter Wonderland!”.
With a total of almost 800 votes being cast, We Are Weymouth is excited to announce the winners of this delightful competition:
First place: Vibrant You Beauty
Vibrant You Beauty’s window shows a white wonderland with Father Christmas himself flying his sleigh! With beautiful lights and a display across both windows, the festive transformation saw Vibrant You Beauty voted the top spot.
“We’ve always put a lot of effort into our windows, and this means the world to myself and the team” said Vibrant You Owner Siobhan Rhymer, “Christmas is my absolute favourite time of the year, and I’m glad our window display made passersby smile daily over the past few weeks.
“Winning this competition has come as a huge surprise. I’m so grateful to all our clients, neighbours and everyone else who took the time to vote. Winning the competition is a massive incentive to push even harder and make my business even better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”
Second place: Boss Miniatures
Utilising an array of gaming stock, Boss Miniatures created a festive window with Pokémon at the forefront. The place to go for all tabletop gaming enthusiasts, this window received second place in the public vote.
Third place: Floral Couture by Jay
Taking a leaf from Weymouth’s recent Steampunk weekend, this window draws viewers into the fantasy of a Victorian Christmas. The colours, foliage and beautifully dressed mannequins led to Floral Couture being awarded third place in the competition.
Highly Commended: King Edwards Fish & Chip Shop
With three almost floor to ceiling windows to fill, King Edwards Fish & Shop receives a highly commended award for scale alone! Showing a winter wonderland filled with Santa’s little helpers, these fantastic windows nod to Weymouth’s reputation of being the UK’s Elf capital.
Highly Commended: Weldmar Hospicecare Shop
Using only items from within the shop, Weldmar Hospicecare Shop was able to create a life-sized nativity scene. It just goes to show what can be achieved with a touch of imagination and creativity.
