A mystical and fantastical array of events is set to take over Weymouth this Christmas as Steampunk hits the town. For one weekend only, official Steampunkers from across the country will descend on the town for a host of incredible, Christmas-themed, activities.
4th December 2021: Be a part of something unique this Christmas and come to Weymouth to enjoy the best of Steampunk in conjunction with the Ministry of Steampunk; with a curated market – selection of indoor and outdoor Steampunk traders at Nothe Fort, an Exhibition hall with the latest Steampunk creations from Tinker’s workshop, a festive sing along, plus tours around the Fort. Extend your stay by taking a wander into the town for lunch or afternoon tea; pick up some Christmas goodies and take part in the newly created Steampunk trail. In the evening you are welcome to dress up in your finest Steampunk attire and attend the Steampunk Ball at the Royal Hotel, or wander into town and enjoy bars, clubs and restaurants
5th December 2021: Wrap up warm, put on your finest outfits and join us for a Steampunk Promenade through Weymouth. Starting from the Jubilee Clock Tower at 11am, enjoy a leisurely promenade along the seafront, St Mary’s Street and St Alban Street ending at Alexandra Gardens, where you are free to enjoy the curated market and, of course, the fantastic gallopers and other classic amusements and fairground style rides plus return to shop in those businesses whom you have passed on your promenade. If you have time, book to have an afternoon tea, take in the exhibits positioned across the town and take part in the steampunk trail.
Dawn Rondeau, We Are Weymouth (BID) Manager comments: “We are so excited to have instigated this weekend of Steampunk activities and want to welcome everyone to Weymouth to take part in a weekend packed full of festive and fantastical events throughout the town. We wanted to offer something Christmas-themed with a twist and our Steampunk Christmas Activities are just that. We’re also really honoured to be endorsed by the Ministry of Steampunk who are working in partnership with us to provide the first Christmas event of this ilk in the UK and we’re excited to see bookings coming in thick and fast from visitors planning to join us for the weekend.”
Visitors are encouraged to book their weekend away quickly and directly with guest houses, B&Bs and hotels, as the town is expecting record numbers for the Steampunk extravaganza.
John Naylor, Ministry of Steampunk comments: “Weymouth is a brilliant backdrop for a Steampunk event as it has the right architecture, history and vibe, whilst being on the South coast provides us with the opportunity to bring something new to an area that hasn’t got many steampunk events”
“We hope that this will become an annual event, one of the highlights in the Steampunk calendar, for the Weymouth community and beyond”
