Weymouth Beach has been named as one of the best in Europe, alongside beaches in Italy, Spain and Cyprus.

A Trip Advisor survey lists Weymouth 19th in Europe’s Top 25 beaches, which was announced as part of the Travellers’ Choice Awards today (Wednesday 23rd February).

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “Picturesque Weymouth beach holds a special place in the hearts of so many travellers who visit our town year after year, so it’s fantastic to see it listed as one of the top beaches in Europe alongside places like Lampedusa in Italy and Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

“As we gear up for the next holiday season, this is just great news for the town and will provide a welcome boost to the local economy. Weymouth Town Council takes a lot of pride in keeping this glorious stretch of sandy beach a clean and go-to destination for families and friends to enjoy, and this year could be a bumper year for tourism as more and more people decide to pay us a visit.”

Based on the quantity and quality of reviews, Spiaggia dei Conigli Beach in Lampedusa Italy topped the list, with other beaches joining Weymouth in the top rankings including Crete, Majorca and Portugal.

The only other UK beaches to make it on to the list include Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris, Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland, and Porthminster Beach in St Ives, Cornwall.
