THE MYSTICAL, MAGICAL AND MECHANICAL COMES TO WEYMOUTH STEAMPUNK WEEKEND THIS CHRISTMAS

Where many towns might be rolling out the ice rinks, or setting up the alpine markets, the Weymouth Steampunk Weekend offers something a little different. The world of Steampunk descends on the coastal town, bringing the magical, the mechanical and the mystical as Steampunkers from across the country dress in their finery for a weekend of Christmas frivolity.

Beginning on Friday 1st December, locals and visitors alike are invited on a Ghosts Of Christmas Past Tour. This walking tour of Weymouth’s historic harbour is a fun and festive way to explore the ghosts of Christmas past in Weymouth this December.

“A Dickensian Christmas” offers an alternative at the Nothe Fort on the Friday evening with mulled wine, Christmas carols and parlour games – a Merry Yuletide to all.

Dawn Rondeau, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth comments: “There is something so special about Weymouth Steampunk Weekend at Christmas and we really wanted to celebrate this here in Weymouth. With so much history visible throughout the town, seeing the Steampunk community arrive really adds to the magic and festive spirit. By offering events, entertainment, displays and much more there’s so much to see and do for all the family – whether shopping in the town or joining in with the organised activities; Steampunker or not.”

On Saturday 2nd December join the Ministry of Steampunk, Weymouth College and steampunk stallholders at the Nothe Fort for fashion displays, choirs, bands, games, live entertainment (Steampunk belly dancers!), even the chance to ‘make-your-own’ steampunk accessories. This interactive experience brings the Steampunk community together for Christmas festivities like no other.

After a day either in the town or at the Fort it’s time to don the glad rags and attend The Dolmen Yule Ball or the Steampunk Convivial for a bit of Christmas merry-making. Disappear into a time of roaring fires, glistening brass and holly & ivy, as live music, conversation and good old-fashioned cheer fill-the-halls.

To conclude what is always a magical weekend, Sunday 3rd December sees the famous Steampunk Promenade starting at the Jubilee clock and parading along Weymouth seafront – the perfect remedy for fuzzy heads, culminating in an illicit market. To end the festivities, join fellow Steam-punkers in your finery and enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast at this grand hotel, The Crown Hotel, overlooking the historic town bridge and fishing harbour. (tickets only).

About The World of Steampunk

The steampunk community is centered around a retro-futuristic aesthetic that blends Victorian-era style with technological advancements and imaginings. Originating in the 1980s as a literary genre, steampunk has since expanded into encompassing various forms of art, fashion, and even lifestyle choices. Embracing the allure of steam power, clockwork mechanisms, and ornate craftsmanship, the community celebrates an alternate history where steam-driven technology flourishes, offering a unique escape into a fantastical world melding past and future. Head to Dorset for this years Weymouth Steampunk Weekend to find out just what this fascinating community is all about and maybe you’ll be taken with it and encouraged to join in at future events …
