2022 marks 10yrs since Weymouth & Portland hosted the 2012 Olympic Sailing events and the Olympic legacy can be seen throughout the town.  Since 2012, Weymouth & Portland have continued to host championship water sports events, due to its calm waters, steady stream of wind and high-quality facilities.  Weymouth & Portland is world renowned for its offering of water sports and coastal activities.

Weymouth sees visitors from near and far head to the Jurassic Coast to enjoy anything from sailing to kitesurfing, diving and swimming, paddleboarding to coasteering.  The perfect family holiday where the kids and teenagers can enjoy all that’s on offer in safe and calm waters.

As well as Weymouth’s vast array of water sports, the Olympic legacy can be felt in other ways throughout the town.  There are sculptures celebrating Weymouth’s history, a new relief road was built to ease the commute down to this part of the coast, the town and surrounding area have seen investment from multiples and developers.  The Olympics put Weymouth on the map and the town continues to flourish because of this.

Dawn Rondeau, Chief Operations Officer comments: “We’re very excited to look back over the past 10yrs and see all the town has accomplished in this time.  We’re a popular destination for those looking to explore the coast and take on some adventurous watersports!  But as well as this the town offers art, history, cuisine and a working harbour of which we’re really proud.  The town has seen real investment since the Olympics with many local and independent businesses opening and offer something a little different to visitors.

People now travel from near and far to spend time in Weymouth and this is the real Olympic legacy, that once people experience Weymouth, they keep coming back for more.”

For those looking for something off the water, Weymouth also offers yoga on the beach, ghost walks, art and sculpture trails plus a walk-through time with the Weymouth heritage trail showcasing Weymouth’s rich history.  There is horse riding, the southwest coastal path, e-bikes on the harbour and amazing UK climbing spots on Portland.  The team at We Are Weymouth is keen to show all the town has to offer for those looking to be active.
