We Are Weymouth BID has been working closely with the Jurassic Coast Trust over the past 18 months to develop a Jurassic Museum here in Weymouth, following the successful We Are Weymouth Dinosaur Trail in Feb/March 2022. Working with the Jurassic Coast Trust, We Are Weymouth BID sponsored the inspiring, fun and educational workshops in the town to highlight the work of the Trust in preserving the coastline and educating future generations.

Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth BID, Dawn Rondeau comments: “It has been a pleasure to work with the Jurassic Coast Trust in Weymouth over the past 18 months on a number of projects. We are passionate that Weymouth needs to be the central location for people to explore the whole coast, with the wonderful fossil discoveries on Portland, Swanage and in Lyme. Weymouth is the natural central location for the whole of this magnificent coastline, and we wholeheartedly support this campaign to ensure the museum comes to Weymouth.”

We Are Weymouth BID and the Jurassic Coast Trust are calling for public support for the development of a new museum, showcasing the geology, palaeontology and geomorphology that this area has to offer. The Jurassic Coast Trust has launched a crowdfunding campaign and benefit event for early 2023 to help fun the initiative. We Are Weymouth BID will be supporting this campaign and hopes to see this new museum in Weymouth in the future.

Chris Truscott, Chair of We Are Weymouth BID Board comments: “We Are Weymouth BID represents a diverse range of businesses throughout the town centre and the addition of a Jurassic Coast Museum to the town would be a great attraction for visitors and locals alike. The town’s central location to key sites along the Jurassic Coast makes it the perfect location for just such a museum and we know a project like this will encourage more people to visit and stay in Weymouth. We call on locals to help us support this fantastic initiative.”
