Legendary musicians Courtney Pine, Robbie McIntosh and Ben Waters are centre stage this August at the award winning Nothe Fort , Weymouth. They will be bringing Rock, Blues and Jazz sessions to midsummer Monday evenings.

The three Nothe Fort Sessions, on Monday 15th, 22nd and 29th August, are the brainchild of globe-trotting, Boogie Woogie Maestro, Ben Waters. He presents the top class artists with his inimitable warmth and musical wizardry.

Ben says,“What better way to start the week than sitting back in the spectacular parade ground at Nothe Fort, listening to legendary musicians on a midsummer evening. Bring a picnic, get your feet stomping and enjoy!”

Opening the Nothe Fort Sessions on Monday 15th August will be the Robbie McIntosh Band with support from Mickey B and the Night Owls.
Guitarist, Robbie has legendary status among his fellow musicians and for good reason. A long term member of the Pretenders and Sir Paul McCartneys Band, Robbie has since appeared on countless recordings by a literal who’s who in pop music including Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, George Martin, Paul Young, Joe Cocker, Annie Lennox and Carl Perkins. He has performed in major venues all over the globe and has played at the Greatest Show on Earth – Live Aid.

Robbie and his Band will give fans the chance to see and hear one of the finest guitarists of his, or any, generation playing the music he loves. The evening is completed with a top terrace view of the Weymouth Fireworks.

Next, ground-breaking saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, Courtney Pine will take centre stage on Monday 22nd August, presenting music inspired by his hit album House of Legends.

Pine is a jazz legend with trailblazing talent. He has certainly clocked up the accolades, with a string of highly acclaimed recordings and numerous prestigious industry awards, including several Mobo awards, a Mercury Prize nomination and a CBE and OBE for services to music. What’s more, he is a Professor of Music at Westminster University, worked with UNESCO and Tate Modern and is a widely respected TV and radio broadcaster. It’s no surprise he has played some of the largest stages in the world.

This is a rare treat to have a musician of his reputation and pure talent setting the stage alight with an exhilarating Caribbean cocktail of ska, calypso, merengue and reggae, topped with an abundance of screaming soprano saxophone. With special guests, saxophonist Tom Waters, presenting Abel’s collective, this is an evening not to miss.

Finally, and by no means least, Monday 29th August brings the curator of the Nothe Fort sessions, Ben Waters with The Ben Waters Band to the stage.

Described by Jools Holland as ‘his favourite pianist of all time’ and Blues & Rhythm as ‘Quite simply the best boogie woogie piano player in this country today’, Ben has sold out stages from the Opera House to the Royal Albert Hall. He has worked with industry legends such as The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Paul Weller, Jerry Lee Lewis and many more.

Ben and his Band will present a blistering set of electrifying piano-led rock & roll, boogie-woogie, stomping blues and swing, to delight audiences on their home ground. With support from Dorset’s rockabilly sensation, The Surfin Birds and a ring side view of the Weymouth Fireworks to complete the evening.

Ben concludes,”we are looking forward to starting the week with you and some of the industries top musicians, all in the spectacular Nothe Fort parade ground. Whoop Whoop!”
