Weymouth is one of the top 12 harbours to visit in the UK, according to Sailing Today magazine.

The article says: “You have to visit at least one classic British seaside town with that bewitching and evocative combination of an active harbour with pontoons for visiting yachts, a safe and extensive town beach with Punch and Judy shows and candy floss, good pubs, restaurants and trippers.”

It also recommends visiting the Royal Dorset Yacht Club, which it describes as ‘full of fascinating maritime history’.

The recognition of Weymouth as a great place to visit was welcomed by Councillor Jason Osborne, Tourism, Culture and Harbour Briefholder at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.

Councillor Osborne said: “We have a lot to offer not only sailors, but all our visitors. Weymouth is historic and has a beautiful harbour, seafront and one of the best sandy beaches in the world.

“We are also a gateway to the world-famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. We are extremely proud to have so much to offer our visitors, whether they sail or drive, and we look forward to welcoming them.”

Last month, Weymouth was also awarded a prestigious Blue Flag for its central beach, which is owned and managed by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council. The award, presented by Keep Britain Tidy, is given to beaches which are clean, safe, have high environmental and bathing water quality standards.
