Weymouth Town Council will be hosting its free annual Guy Fawkes Event on Friday 5 November on Weymouth seafront.

The fun starts at 4pm with a family funfair on the Pavilion forecourt, joining many stalls and attractions on Weymouth seafront which will be in place throughout the evening.

At 6.30pm, the traditional children’s Guy Fawkes competition gets underway in the foyer of Weymouth Pavilion.

Children wanting to enter competition should arrive in the Weymouth Pavilion foyer with their parents or carers, and their entry from 6pm for judging at 6.30pm. The competition will be judged by special guests including the Mayor of Weymouth Colin Huckle; the cast from Weymouth Pavilion’s Christmas Pantomime Aladdin; and team leaders from Weymouth Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre.

The lighting of the giant beach bonfire will take place at 7.40pm, followed by the fireworks display over Weymouth Bay at 8pm. The fireworks for the display will be provided by Pains Fireworks and launched from HM Denham.

People attending the evening’s activities are asked, where possible, to leave their cars at home and use public transport or consider walking to the town centre.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said: “Weymouth’s Guy Fawkes event is always a great spectacle and very popular, creating a wonderful atmosphere on Weymouth’s seafront. Each year many thousands of people visit the town to enjoy and share one of our great local annual events in a fun and safe environment.

“Weymouth Town Council is glad to be able to hold this event this year, after unfortunately having to cancel last year’s event due to the pandemic. I would like to thank Council staff for the work that’s required to put on an event of this scale, and I very much look forward to seeing people there on the night.”
