This talk by Richard McConnell will share the results of recent archaeological investigations by Context One Heritage & Archaeology with the help of Dig The Street volunteers at the site of the former Weymouth and Portland Borough Council offices at North Quay and the former MFA Bowl site across the harbour along St Nicholas Street. Excavation revealed well-preserved remains from the medieval period to the present day and demonstrates an exciting potential for future discoveries.
Richard has been an archaeologist for nearly 30 years and co-founded Context One 25 years ago. Context One are based in North Dorset have always worked in the South West, particularity in Dorset and Somerset. Some of their other notable work in Dorset has been the excavation of a medieval manor at Putton Lane, Chickerell and a Roman road with settlement activity at the rear of Dorset Museum as part of their major programme of expansion. Richard has been a full member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeology for some years and is pleased to represent Context One on the Dorset Archaeological Committee.
The talk will be held in Hope United Reformed Church at 8 Trinity Street. Tea & biscuits will be served from 2pm and the talk will begin at 2.30pm.
Tickets will be available on the door and are £2.00 for members of the Friends and £3.00 for visitors. (Exact change would be appreciated, if possible).
