As the weather warms and the days get longer a growing number of bikes and eBikes have been spotted on and along Weymouth’s historic harbourside. The EBIKE Cafe and the co-founders of Camber Cycle Works have joined forces to provide even better service and repair options for local cyclists.
Since the EBIKE Cafe @ Deheers opened its doors in November 2020, it has been on a mission to help Weymouth become a greener, healthier place to live by encouraging local people to ditch their cars and get back on two wheels. The pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis have led more and more people to seek alternative modes of transport. This on top of continued investment in the council’s local cycle network and infrastructure, plus the government-backed money-saving ‘Cycle Scheme’ initiatives and cycle-friendly legislation. Means, cycling is once again becoming a popular option.
Peter Claxton, owner of The EBIKE Cafe, is excited to announce the expansion of his business: “Over the last three years, we have noticed a massive uptick in people returning to two wheels, not just with the Specialized eBikes we stock, but with bicycles in general. In the last 12 months, we have received more and more enquiries from people who are dusting off their bikes from their sheds and asking us to repair, service, or get them ready to hit the road.”
Peter continues, “When our longstanding mechanic, Mike, retired towards the end of last year, we began collaborating with Simon and Will at Camber Cycle Works. It has gone so well that we have decided to expand our business to cover the service and repair of all kinds of bicycles.”
Simon and Will, the co-founders of Camber Cycle Works, share Peter’s passion for all things two-wheeled. Having worked together since 2017, they bring over two decades of experience in the bike industry. Working for high street chains, respected independents, and big-name brands such as Trek, Specialized, and Cannondale, as well as custom frame builders. They pride themselves on being able to work on any bike and treat it with the utmost care and attention to detail.
Simon Spreyer from Camber Cycle Works added, “Will and I were already collaborating more and more with Peter and Josephine at The EBIKE Cafe, and we were looking at an additional space in town. When Mike retired, it made sense for us all to work closer together.”
The EBIKE Cafe and Camber Cycle Works share a philosophy that makes them a perfect match. The EBIKE Cafe has become a community hub for cyclists, eBikers, and local people looking for a greener, healthier lifestyle. With this new partnership, customers can get their eBikes, bicycles, road bikes, mountain bikes, or gravel bikes repaired and serviced at The EBIKE Cafe @ Deheers by two of the most experienced and passionate Cytech-accredited bike technicians in the area.
“We are very excited about our future together,” Simon adds.
The EBIKE Cafe is a local employment success story that has grown from a team of three to over twenty-five in just three years. With this expansion, including the addition of two Cytech-accredited technicians and a hard-working apprentice, the business is set to help more local people make the move towards a greener, healthier future.
The EBIKE Cafe Service & Repair Centre is open daily from 9 am. Customers will find Simon, Will, and Peter in the dedicated “Service, Repair & Sales Zone” at the cafe, where they can relax, enjoy good food and drinks, and have their bicycles or eBikes serviced or repaired.
