On Thursday 15th May, the Lawrence of Arabia Hotel is hosting a meeting of The ‘Rolls Royce’ of motorcycles – the Brough Superiors, including TE Lawrence’s own 1929 Brough Superior SS-100 motorcycle, nicknamed George VI.
T.E. Lawrence, better known to the World historically as Lawrence of Arabia, came to live in Dorset for the last few years of his life until he died in 1935 and was buried in the area.
The event is to raise funds for two charities that the Hotel supports, DocBike, and the RNLI. The planned activities also mark the 90th anniversary of the week of Lawrence’s fatal accident on the 13th May 1935, which left him with serious head trauma that left him in a coma from which he never regained consciousness. Lawrence later died on the 19th May, 1935.
As part of Local History Month, this Thursday, The Lawrence of Arabia Hotel is offering three 20-minute tours at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm allowing visitors to explore exhibits and memorabilia on show. Visitors can talk to the owners and riders of the bikes and take photos.

Admission for the tour costs £5 per person and includes a cuppa tea or coffee with cake. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the RNLI and DocBike charities. Tickets can be purchased on the door, in cash.
The motorcycles will be on show outside The Lawrence of Arabia Hotel in Weymouth, in Musgrave Place.

About DocBike:
The DocBike charity combines a highly qualified (consultant-level) doctor or critical care paramedic with two wheels to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads due to motorcycle collisions. Wherever possible, this doctor or paramedic also works on the local air ambulance. It is part of their everyday job, to treat and save the most severely injured and sick patients and help them to reach the hospital alive.
When motorcyclists are involved in a collision, often the injuries are catastrophic, and no amount of medical care can save a person’s life. This is why a lot of the DocBike charity’s time is invested in preventing motorcyclists from being in a collision in the first place.
About RNLI:
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Powered primarily by kind donations, our search and rescue service has been saving lives for 200 years.
We are a charity founded upon and driven by our values of selflessness, courage, dependability and trustworthiness, with volunteers at our heart. Values shared by generations of supporters like you who have powered our lifesaving work through your kindness and generosity for 200 years.
The vast majority of RNLI people are volunteers – ordinary people doing extraordinary things – supported by expert staff, all working together to help communities at home and abroad save lives.
