Come & Sing The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins

Saturday 17th October, St Mary’s Church, Edward Road, Dorchester DT1 2HJ

St Mary’s Church is staging the singing of this important work to recognise the season of Remembrance and to help fund the repair of its clerestory windows. The Armed Man was commissioned by the Armories Museum as part of its millennium celebration and was first performed in 2000 as a plea for peace at the end of a war-torn century. It is based on the Catholic Mass but combined with other sources, particularly the 15th century folk song L’Homme Armee. It charts the descent into war, the anticipation of battle, the conflict itself, its aftermath and finally a celebration of peace with his now famous Benedictus.

This Come & Sing is unusual as it will be accompanied by a thirty-piece orchestra and soloists. Please consider joining us to prepare this work at 2pm on 17th October. You are encouraged to register in advance, with a reduced fee for those on low income and students, at

A vocal score will be provided. We will be conducted by Mr Kris Emmett, Director of Music at St Mary’s, who has considerable experience of this work.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to sing, you are invited to come to an informal performance from 4.30 – 5.30 pm, with a donation towards these church repairs.
