We’ll be in the lap of the gods with the weather, but here’s a final hurrah for our walk. After meeting at Easton Square Garden we will head down to Portland Museum (where you could also meet us) then follow the South West Coastal Path north, from the setting of Thomas Hardy’s The Well-Beloved to the once harsh Portland Prison and to see the old coastal defences.
Your guides, Mark Williams and Tony Webb, were both raised on the island and will gently unravel the long history of Portland, from Roman times through its famous Portland Stone, to the present day, and we will point out the abundant wildlife and wild flowers en route.
Although the walk is gentle, there are some steeper, rocky sections, so WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE ANYONE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES. We strongly recommend using our bus services to get to Portland.
