Remember, remember, Weymouth Town Council’s annual bonfire night and firework display takes place on Wednesday 5th November. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the event to help plan your night in advance.
Key timings
From 5pm Food, drink and other traders will be set up along the promenade until the firework display ends. From jacket potatoes, pancakes, coffee stalls to traditional fish and chips, milkshakes and wood fired pizza, there is plenty to choose from.
Weldmar will also have its outreach vehicle located on the charity stall pitch area by the Beach Office on the seafront, answering people’s questions and their services.
7.40pm Feel the warm glow as the beach bonfire is, so members of the public are encouraged to find their viewing spot in good time.
8pm The fantastic firework display over the bay begins. The fireworks will be fired from a vessel out in the bay and will be visible from various points along the seafront.
Staff from Weymouth Town Council will also provide orange sparkler buckets to dispose of any used sparklers on the night. These will be located at the various entrance and exit points of the beach from the Pavilion end to Bond Street.
Getting to and from the event
Bonfire night is always a popular event, and the town can become very busy. The Town Council is encouraging people to consider walking, cycling or using public transport wherever possible.
Here’s a list of buses running services:
No 1. service to Portland
No 2. service to Littlemoor
No 10. service to Poundbury
You can find the timetables for the services above here.
If you’re not able to walk, cycle or use public transport, drivers are advised there is plenty of space at the Swannery car park. Members of the public are reminded that the Pavilion car park is partially closed due to the ongoing wall works and is therefore best avoided. There are traffic signals at the front of the Pavilion which will cause delays.
Following the end of the firework display, members of the public are advised to take care when crossing the Esplanade to exit the event and use the designated crossing points and underpass.
The Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson said: “Weymouth’s annual bonfire night firework display always generates a wonderful atmosphere and is very well attended. There will be a great variety of food and drink stalls along the seafront, so people will have plenty to choose from before the bonfire is lit and the fireworks light up the autumnal night sky. I am looking forward to attending this event and hope to see lots of people there to enjoy the evening.”
