Weymouth Beach could see some exciting improvements ahead of summer 2027, following decisions made by Weymouth Town Council’s Environment and Services Committee on Wednesday 28 October 2026.
Councillors have agreed plans for investment in new beach hire equipment, alongside proposals to introduce a new watersports activity for residents and visitors to enjoy.
£75,000 Investment in Beach Hire Equipment
Weymouth’s popular beach hire service is set to benefit from a one-off capital investment of up to £75,000, allowing the council to purchase new equipment for future summer seasons.
Councillors also agreed to increase the annual budget for beach hire equipment to £7,500 from the next financial year, with the amount reviewed annually.
Following the successful introduction of card-only payments for beach equipment hire during the 2026 season, the council has confirmed that this payment system will continue in future years.
The investment aims to maintain and improve the beach hire facilities available to visitors and local residents enjoying Weymouth’s award-winning sandy beach.
New Watersports Activity Planned for Summer 2027
There could also be a new attraction on the water next summer.
Councillors have agreed to launch an open tender process this winter to find an experienced operator to provide a new watercraft activity on Weymouth Beach.
The aim is to have the new activity operating in time for summer 2027, adding another option for residents and holidaymakers looking to make the most of a day by the sea.
Further details about the type of watercraft activity and how it will operate are expected to become clearer following the tender process.
Looking Ahead to Summer 2027
Weymouth Beach remains one of the town’s biggest attractions, drawing visitors throughout the year and particularly during the busy summer months.
These latest decisions represent further investment in the beach experience, with improved hire equipment and the prospect of a new watersports activity helping to enhance what Weymouth has to offer.
