Weymouth has a long tradition of running annual spectacular armed forces and veterans weekends dating back as far as we can remember to 1994 and the 50th anniversary of D Day in which Weymouth & neighboring Portland played a large part as a departure point for US Troops.

Unfortunately due to covid restrictions, the event couldn’t take place last year. There had been concern about the possibility of holding it this year (2021) but fortunately, although scaled-down it still went ahead. The traditional service and parade along the seafront had to be canceled with a private service with invited veterans and military representatives being held in its place at The Nothe Fort.

Static displays of historic vehicles took place near the harbour and a veterans picnic with live music at the Nothe Gardens proved very popular as well.

We are very grateful to Geoff Moore of The Travel Trunk for this video highlight of the weekend’s events. You can watch more of his videos many featuring our local area on his Youtube Channel and website at www.thetraveltrunk.net
