RAF Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic Championship is back on Weymouth Beach

The great annual RAF Careers Beach Volleyball Classic Championship is back on Weymouth Beach from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 August. This follows a break last year when the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events were in Weymouth.

The championship is celebrating its 30th year. It forms part of the Dorset Festival of Sport (27 July to 5 August) as part of the Summer to Remember anniversary.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Tourism and Culture brief holder Cllr Ian Bruce said: “The RAF Beach Volleyball Classic Championship is a great sport event for all the family to enjoy. We are thrilled that the RAF continues to support the championships and it is a great event to have in the Dorset Festival of Sport programme.

“People can enjoy a fun weekend of watching some of the most talented beach volleyball teams in the UK for free in the fantastic surroundings of Weymouth Beach.”

Kicking off with qualifying heats from 2pm on Friday, teams will play to see who makes it to the main draw on Saturday. Events on Saturday start at 9am. Sky Sports will be down on Sunday to film the women’s semi-finals at 10am, finals at 3pm and the men’s semi-final at noon and the finals at 4pm.

The event has a major show court, ten outside courts, live commentary and a purpose built beach grandstand able to seat up to 500 spectators. Weekend entertainment also includes music intervals, cheerleading dancers and trade stands all making a fantastic sporting weekend.

The volleyball classic has been supported by RAF Careers for the sixth year running.
