Following a recent prize win from Weymouth BID during its ‘Jurassic Egg Hunt & Roarsome Dino Day!’. Local chippy Fish ’n’ Fritz have decided to donate their £50 prize to local charity ‘The Bus Shelter Dorset’.
For the last three years Paul Hay the owner of Fish ’n’ Fritz, Market Street, Weymouth has been running a ‘Suspended Coffee’ scheme, an initiative where customers can pay for a coffee, tea or maybe even some food for a person in need. When Paul received his unexpected prize from Weymouth BID he wanted to do something with it that would benefit the whole community.
Paul says “It was great being recognised by the BID for our input during their Easter Egg Hunt and I wanted to do something worthwhile and productive with the money. £50 is not a lot but as we have seen here with our ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ idea and ‘Suspended Coffees’ scheme, little things can make a difference. With that in mind I have decided to donate £1.00 from every ‘Scampi & Chips’ served in the restaurant to ‘The Bus Shelter Dorset’ well across the Summer.”
The Weymouth based charity ‘The Bus Shelter Dorset’ is aiming to get a bus for the homeless in Weymouth & Portland onto the streets of Weymouth by 1st September this year.
Emily McCarron from The Bus Shelter Dorset says “We would like to thank Paul from Fish ’n’ Fritz for this generous donation. This will help us do some extra things to the bus which is now ready for its end of Summer launch. We are now working with statutory agencies and private land owners to find a suitable site where we can park the bus and start helping the homeless people in Weymouth get off the streets and get a fresh start.”
